JABAR GOEMBA:
This goemba was established by Lama Drakpa Jamtsho in Nagja under Betina block in Chapcha, a valley surrounded by five mountains with an auspicious resemblance to the five religious hats, or Ring Nga, traditionally worn by lamas.The main relic in the monastery is phurba or ritual dagger believed to have miraculously flown there from Tibet.
PHUNTSHOLING (300m/986ft):
The gateway to the Dragon Kingdom in the south, this town is a thriving commercial center on the northern edge of the Indian plains. Situated directly at the base of the Himalayan foothills, Phuntsholing is a fascinating mixture of Indian and Bhutanese, a perfect example of the mingling of peoples and cultures. Being a border town, Phuntsholing is a convenient entry. Exit point for visiting Bhutan and also the neighboring Indian states of West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam.
KHARBANDI GOEMBA:
This beautiful monastery situated in a garden of tropical plants and flower at an altitude of 400m/1,300ft above the town, was founded Phuntsho Chodenron. The monastery contains paintings depicting scenes from the life of Buddha and statues of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and Guru Rinpoche. From the monastery garden there is a splendid view of Phuntsholing town and the plains of West Bengal with their tea garden beyond.
ZANGTHO PELRI:
This small temple built in the centre of Phuntsholing town represents the heaven of Guru Rinpoche. At ground level there are statues of the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche and paintings depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha. The floor above contains wall paintings of the eight Bodhisattvas and statues of Avalokiteshvara and Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. On the top floor, the main statue is of Amitabha.
HYDROPOWER GENERATORS:
Two of the biggest hydropower generators in the country, Chhukha Hydropower and Tala Hydropower. It is also contemporary importance to the economy of Bhutan. The region today boasts not just the power projects but also other majopr industries such as the Bhutan Ferro Alloys Limited and the Bhutan Board Products Limited, to name just two. Phuentsholing is the gate way of Bhutan.
Chhukha also has much important plant and animal species. The first highway connecting the capital, Thimphu, with India was built in 1961, further stimulating economic activity. Because it served as a gateway to India, Chukha was long used by many western Bhutanese traders as a commercial lifeline to the kingdom.
